| Elvis, had just turned 21,in April 1956,he played a two-week gig at the New Frontier.
but got a
lukewarm reception,the audience didn’t quite
know what to make of him. During the two weeks, Elvis first met Liberace who was performing
just across the street from him at the Riviera.
In November Elvis went to see Liberace performing and after the show,
they posed for a publicity photo,
which was taken by the Las Vegas News Bureau, they had
switched there jackets and instruments. Elvis was at the piano, and Liberace holding Elvis’ guitar.
To commemorate the anniversary of the photo, tribute artists Matt Lewis as Elvis,
(a featured performer of "Legends in Concert," he first impersonated
Elvis when he was 12 years old. for a school talent show.)
and Wes Winters,as Liberace, (he won the Liberace Museum's 2003 "Liberace Play-a-Like Competition".)
they re-created the famous
photo at the Liberace Museum.
The museum
still has several stuffed and ceramic hound dogs which were gifts from Elvis. |
