| The Cadillac was Elvis Presley's favourite make of car,
so in early march 1955 Elvis purchased his first Cadillac,it
was a pink and white 1954 Cadillac, and provided transport
for Elvis and the blue moon boys for about s three months
until it went up in smoke when the brake lining caught fire on the road
between hope and texarkana,ark.on June 1955
on July 1955 Elvis purchased another Cadillac a new
fleetwood series 60 in blue with a black roof to replace the
one that burned
Elvis had it repainted by
a neighbour who designed a pink colour paint and named it Elvis rose,
and he is the only one who knows the formula.when it was finished Elvis
gave it to his mother as a gift
even though she never had a driving licence.
On the 2nd of September 1955, Scotty Moore drove the car into a vehicle which was passing
a pick-up truck in Texarkana, Texas, causing $1000 of damage.
In March 1956 Elvis had the upholstery replaced,
the body retouched and roof painted white.
The car has become one of the ultimate icons of
Elvis and the 1950's, and it is arguably the most famous car in the world.
The pink Cadillac remains on permanent display at Graceland, formerly under a carport for
many years, and now resident in the auto museum. |
