Elvis Presley was born in Tupelo Mississippi(his birthplace, see picture above, is open to the public) The Presley family being a poor family living in a wooden shack in perhaps the poorest area of Tupelo. His father Vernon moved the family to Memphis which enabled him to find work and improve the families circumstances.
